HOW TO CORRECT DATE OF BIRTH, NAMES, COURSE OF STUDY AND OTHER NYSC ONLINE REGISTRATION MISTAKES
Mistakes are part of our everyday life, making a mistake is one thing and correcting it is another thing. The NYSC body has offered opportunity and leverage for prospective corp members to correct some mistakes and errors in their data/details before receiving their call-up letter. Most corrections are usually done after the NYSC online registration.
Part of a recent development by the National Youth Service Corp Management included the correction of date of birth using information from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to effect some changes. Below are some popular mistakes and errors faced by prospective corp members and how to correct those mistakes.
HOW TO CORRECT A WRONG DATE OF BIRTH
As stated earlier, Aspiring corp members personal details from WAEC is now being used to effect changes on mistakes made in their date of birth on their dashboard. In order to effectively and successfully get this correction done, a PCM will purchase what is known as WAEC verification pin.
The WAEC verification pin is a 10 or 12 digit number which is usually required in a particular field for the correction of date of birth on the PCM's dashboard. To purchase this verification pin a PCM is required to visit any NYSC approved bank where the pin is sold. I always recommend First bank of Nigeria as the bank to visit for the purchase of the pin.
Although there are some agents both online and around that sell the verification pin but one needs to be careful so as not to fall into wrong hands. After getting the verification pin, PCM must login to their account or dashboard then scroll down to the link for date of birth correction and click on it.
You will be directed to another page where you are required to fill in certain empty fields. Enter the 10 or 12 digit WAEC verification pin where necessary, select WAEC Type, Year of Examination and input your Examination Number then click on the Verify button. Make sure that your WAEC date of birth is correct before venturing into this because NYSC will correct the wrong date of birth to the WAEC date of birth, that is to say your WAEC date of birth will reflect on your NYSC.
See the below previous information from the NYSC management on Correction of Name.
Correction of course of study is very similar to that of date of birth but the good thing is that it doesn't require money. To correct this mistake a PCM must login to his/her dashboard, scroll down to the link for correcting course of study and click on it. On the next page, select the correct course of study and click Submit.
HOW TO CHANGE WRONG OR CLOUDY PASSPORT UPLOADED DURING REGISTRATION.
According to the NYSC management those prospective corp members who have mistakenly uploaded a wrong or blurry passport photograph during the NYSC online registration are required to send their call-up number and full name to NYSC official facebook message box. The link to the NYSC facebook page is www.facebook.com/officialnysc.
Those PCM who fall into this category are to also scan a written application for "take down" of the wrong passport photograph. They are to scan the application to info@nysc.gov.ng so that it can be dropped. This is to enable the uploading of a new passport.
PCMs with wrong thumbprint and passport can also contact the NYSC secretariat where they registered for correction before the commencement of the orientation course.
HOW TO CORRECT WRONG NAME.
Before reading ahead please note this important guide while applying for name rearrangement. NYSC format is SURNAME (comes first), MIDDLE NAME (comes second) and FIRST NAME (comes last). So don't make the mistake of putting the first name you see on your statement of result in the area where you see "first name" during rearrangement hoping that it will be the first name that will show after rearrangement, that is where most PCMs get it wrong while rearranging because the first name like i said earlier always comes last.
If you are still confuse i will elaborate: during rearrangement put the first name you see on your statement of result in the area provided for sur name, put the second name you see on your statement of result in the area provided for middle name and lastly put the third name on your statement of result in the area provided for first name.
Correction of name error is very easy and straight forward. Aspiring Corp members with spelling mistakes or disarrangement in their name should login their dashboard after a successful online registration, scroll down to the name correction link, click on it and correct the spelling or rearrange their name to the right order. Let the name(s) tally with their statement of result. Note that rearrangement of name is very tricky and as such many PCMs have fallen victim of scattering their name arrangement more while trying to rearrange it because all corrections can only be done once. So pay attention to note this down if you are applying for name rearrangement.
Extra tips: If your JAMB name arrangement is different from the name arrangement in your school released senate list or NYSC uploaded senate list or the name arrangement in your statement of result is different from your name arrangement in the NYSC senate list, don't worry because there is an easy solution.
You can either correct the name arrangement in your school before it is sent to NYSC for upload or all you have to do after the NYSC online registration is visit your dashboard and apply for name correction then rearrange the name to the correct order if the arrangement is wrong and reprint your green card once the correction reflects on your dashboard.
The name on your dashboard is the name that will reflect on your green-card when you print it out, make sure it tally with the name on your statement of result.
Note: You can only correct Name spellings or rearrange the name, for those who would need addition or removal of names, they are required to contact their respective institutions where they graduated. Their institution will further communicate with NYSC as regards to the addition or removal of the particular name. Addition or removal of name will not be processed if the institution does not follow the given procedure.
HOW TO CORRECT WRONG GENDER OR STATE OF ORIGIN.
As stated by the NYSC management, PCMs with such mistakes should wait until they get to the orientation camp. In the orientation camp they are required to lodge a complain in the ICT unit of the camp where all corrections would be made.
